What is the supplementary (2nd Annual) exam?

Short answer
The supplementary exam is a second exam a board holds after its main annual exam. It is mainly for students who failed one or more papers, missed the annual exam, or want to improve their marks. Boards call it by different names, such as 2nd Annual, Annual-II or Supplementary, and each board sets who can sit it.
Many names, one idea
Punjab boards and the Federal Board usually say "2nd Annual". BISE Peshawar uses "Annual-II". Other boards say "Supplementary". When you search your board's notices, try all of these.
Who usually sits it
Eligibility is set by each board. In general it includes:
- Students who failed one or more papers in the annual exam.
- Students who could not sit the annual exam, if the board allows it.
- Students who passed but want to improve marks in some papers.
- Some private candidates, under the board's rules.
How it relates to the annual exam
It follows the same syllabus and the same kind of papers as the annual exam. It usually has fewer candidates, so its date sheet and result come separately from the annual one.
Marks from the supplementary exam are combined with your other papers on your record. How this is shown on the result card, and whether it is marked as a supplementary attempt, depends on the board.
How to apply
After the annual result, watch your board's notices page for the admission schedule of the supplementary exam. Regular students usually apply through their school or college; private candidates apply to the board. The form, window and charges are in the board's notice.
Admissions while you wait
Some colleges and universities accept students whose supplementary result is pending, and some do not. Ask the institution directly, and keep your roll number slip for the supplementary exam.

اس کا نصاب اور پرچوں کی نوعیت سالانہ امتحان جیسی ہی ہوتی ہے۔ اس میں عموماً امیدوار کم ہوتے ہیں، اس لیے اس کی ڈیٹ شیٹ اور رزلٹ سالانہ امتحان سے الگ آتے ہیں۔
